Dealing with Clients

stress-391657_960_720

Dear Travel Agents/Advisors:

We all have stories about clients who drove us insane with impossible requests, demanding so much that we were ready to scream at them (but we didn’t). These are the clients that make us forget for a moment how many nice ones are out there, who appreciate our services.

How many of us took it personally, and believed that we were not good enough, or later thought about something else we should have said to them, or given them a different answer.

I’ve had that experience many times before, and when the phone rang, just the thought of hearing that client’s voice would made my stomach turn.

Honestly, I was giving too much power to those clients, and forgetting who I really was. I know a lot about travel and I am humbled and honored to continue learning if I don’t know something. I can always get the information, and relay it to the client know later on.

Nothing about travel is a matter of life or death. ALL issues can be solved.

Blaming someone else is just a game, and I do not play games.

Problem clients are unhappy human beings who are scared, selfish and so afraid of life that the only way to “control” their lives is to be demanding and mean.

Do not fall for this! Do not try to analyze them and be their therapist or coach. Take care of your own sanity and know you are worthy of better treatment. If you can deal with them, good for you! If you can’t, this does not reflect badly on you, shame on them!

I am your cheerleader!

Focus is the Key

lens-582605_960_720Dear Travel Agents/Advisors,

Every time I write a blog or I post something on Facebook or Instagram, I remember an old cartoon of two men, side by side, digging deep in the ground. The man on the left finds a small diamond. The man on the right sees the man on the left with the diamond, so he stops digging on his side, and moves to the left where the other man stood. We can see that if the man on the right continued digging on his side, he would have found a much bigger diamond, but he gave up, thinking that all the diamonds were all on the other side.

How many times have we heard stories like the Coca Cola one: Today, more than 1.4 billion servings of Coca Cola products are enjoyed every day — nearly a million servings every minute. But in the first year, 1886, they sold an average of 9 drinks a day. Today, CocaCola is available in more than 200 countries around the world.

We can talk about the stories of Disney, Oprah and so many others. The greatest secret is focus and persuasion.

These stories sound so wonderful BUT what if I am following the wrong path?

What if this is not the right thing for me?

What if my neighbor has a better idea?

So many thoughts like these come to me in the middle of the night when I can almost feel my bedroom being “invaded” – it almost feels crowded!

It feel like there are so many people that just want to find their place under the sun. To be famous and respected, to have their opinions cited and quoted by many – to find the diamond when they are digging.

To those people and to myself I say: Continue digging! Don’t move to another place – follow your heart and do it with love. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have now, how many sales you are booking at this moment. Just focus and persist. At this moment you are creating! No one can do it for you, and in few years from now, only you will remember how good it was.

Cheers!

Happy Birthday!

presents-153926_960_720

Dear Travel Agents/Advisors,

Happy Birthday! May you be blessed with many travels and celebrations!

Yes, this time I am wishing this to myself!

I really make a big deal about birthdays. I love to wish everyone I know, even my FB friends, a meaningful and happy birthday.  I love to celebrate life, and each and every one who believes the same makes this world a better place. (Intentions count LOL!)

People who know me know that I have been through a lot in my life. Despite all, I keep a big smile on my face. I am not trying to compare myself to those who have been through more, and it is not my intention to disregard anyone who is suffering, or has suffered so much in the past.  My attitude is to keep focusing on the positive. I work hard against my demons and keep smiling to remind myself that I can do it.

Celebrating my birthday by traveling is an honor. It is a gift – as is being surrounded by loving friends and family. I am making my wishes come true and hoping that I will be able to reach 120 countries – when I have already been to 86!

Cheers!

Win or Learn?

you-win-1143113_960_720

Dear Travel Agents/Advisors,

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn”?

I like to believe that this is the way we should live our lives, learning from our mistakes, instead of torturing ourselves or getting down about our losses.

Life is full of ups and downs. I wish there was a secret formula, or a medication, or something else that could put us in a place where we could always think rationally and without so much emotion. We’d be better able to process everything, always learning from life instead of just moving forward (or even staying in the same place, or even moving backwards!)

Winning, and feeling the happiness of that moment is intoxicating and we want that feeling to last forever.

On the other hand, how can we learn when the feeling of “loss” is so hurtful, sometimes humiliating, and many times, unexpected? Especially when we feel that we do not deserve it!

Separating rational thoughts from feelings is very difficult, and much easier said than done. Seeing ourselves and pinpointing our flaws without being too harsh or too soft, but being a true friend. Some people are lucky enough to have true friends who can be honest and help them to succeed, or to take a “loss” and learn from that experience. Others can use the help of a great therapist or coach.

In the grand scheme of things, it makes sense to say and live by “sometimes you win, sometimes you learn,” when the feeling that come along with the “learning” is manageable and tolerable and you have a support system that can help you.

I love to help you to learn about your business. Feel free to reach out.

To win and to learn!
